American Relief Act Economic Assistance Payments and Kansas Farm Income

What We Know About Disaster Relief

Mark Dikeman & Robin Reid

Jenny Ifft

On December 21, 2024, President Biden signed the American Relief Act, 2025 (HR 10545) which authorized $10 Billion in payments directly to U.S. farmers because of low commodity prices and farm profitability, of which Kansas farmers are anticipated to receive $787 million.  This webinar will discuss the purpose of these payments, payment timeline, estimated payment amounts, and potential payment limitations.  Additional disaster relief for crop years 2023 and 2024 will also be mentioned, as Kansas will likely see payments in drought affected areas.

Ad hoc payments have been a major part of the farm safety net since 2018. While farms benefit from these payments, they also present management challenges. This webinar will use a strategic risk management approach to support producer decisions on (1) determining whether to account for potential ad hoc payments in input and investment decisions and (2) how to use ad hoc payments once they are received.

February 12Making Farm Program & Crop Insurance Decisions for 2025 (ARC/PLC/SCO) Robin Reid and Jenny Ifft

The deadline for selecting ARC (Agricultural Risk Coverage) or PLC (Price Loss Coverage) for crops with base acres has been extended to April 15, 2025. Spring-planted crops have an insurance deadline for March 15, 2025. Producers who select PLC, or producers without base acres for the covered crop, have the option of adding an SCO endorsement (Supplemental Coverage Option) to their crop insurance policy to provide additional protection. This webinar will cover implications of current market conditions for these choices and tools available on agmanager.info to support producer decisions.
